Apollo ENG ARM Sticker

Design

Almost every system in the Apollo Lunar Module ran through a circuit breaker, and the crew used the breakers as switches as much as protection. Panel 16 was on the right-hand wall next to the Lunar Module Pilot: four long rows of push-pull breakers for the flight displays, reaction control system, propulsion, stabilisation and control, communications, environmental control and electrical power. This design reproduces the panel's layout and labels from NASA's own drawing.

In the second row, under STAB/CONT, is the breaker marked ENG ARM. It armed the ascent engine, the only way off the Moon. After the Apollo 11 moonwalk, Buzz Aldrin found that its knob had broken off, probably knocked by a backpack in the cramped cabin. Before lift-off he pushed the breaker in with a felt-tip pen, and Eagle's ascent engine fired as planned.

This sticker takes the ENG ARM breaker from row 2 of Panel 16, labelled as it was in the cabin of Eagle.
